Donald Levi Parsley, the son of the late D. T. and Vida Allen Parsley, was born in Puxico, Missouri on October 21, 1926, and passed away at his residence near Puxico, Missouri on August 12, 2007, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 22 days. Mr. Parsley had lived in the Puxico area all of his life. He was a row crop and livestock farmer and a road grader operator for Duck Creek Township for several years. He was a member of Duck Creek Baptist Church near Puxico for over 50 years and had served as Secretary-Treasurer for many years. His hobbies included collecting old tractors and he was a member of the Mingo Tractor Club. On January 8, 1949, he was married to Mary Lou Vanscyoc in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2006. Surviving are three sons and daughter-in-laws, Allen and Pam Parsley, Edward and Peggy Parsley all of Puxico, Missouri, William and Becky Parsley of Dudley, Missouri; one daughter and a son-in-law, Diane and Richard Hawthorne of Puxico, Missouri; one step-daughter, Margie Franklin of St. Clair, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Jay Parsley, Lisa Parker, Jodi Walker, Kelly Hawthorne, Jimmy Parsley, Kathy Faries, Katie Taylor, Chris Parsley, Kendall Parsley, Bryan Franklin, Greg Franklin and Mike Franklin; fourteen great grandchildren, Andy Parker, Emma Parsley, Sydney Hawthorne, Hunter Walker, Tommy Parsley, Megan Parker, Allison Faries, Jayna Hawthorne, Jacey Parsley, Molly Faries, Mason Parsley, Ryan Franklin, Matt Franklin and Clayton Franklin. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Parsley and five sisters, Alva Cookson, Florence Menley, Wanda Hyten, Janette Rowland and Goldie Parsley. Friends may call after 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 11:00 AM at the Duck Creek Baptist Church near Puxico, Missouri with Rev. Ralph Mayes and Rev. David Edwards both of Poplar Bluff, Missouri officiating. Interment will be in the Duck Creek Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Bible Society, 1865 Broadway, New York, NY 10023.
