Shirley McGhee, daughter of the late Arthur and Lillian Opal Burchett Book, was born in Malden, Missouri on March 14, 1932, and passed away at her home in Dexter, Missouri on January 2, 2006, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 19 days. She had lived in Dexter for the past 36 years. She had worked at the Hickory House Restaurant as cashier for many years and had also worked as a CNA at the Vintage Villa Nursing Home in Dexter, Missouri. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Dexter, Missouri. On October 17, 1948, she was married to Joe L. McGhee in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2001. Surviving are two sons, Mike McGhee of Edmond, Oklahoma, Ron McGhee of Dexter, Missouri; five grandchildren, Adrian McGhee of Edmond, Oklahoma, Sarah Northern, Rebekah McGhee and Hannah McGhee all of Dexter, Missouri, Philip McGhee of Sikeston, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Dylan, Emily, and Hailey Northern all of Dexter, Missouri; and one brother, A. J. Book of Clarksville, Tennessee. Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Black and one grandson, Nathanael Joe McGhee. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 5, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Pastor Shane Mallard of Dexter, Missouri officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
