Gladys Eugene Pope, the daughter of the late Stoie Bruce and Ada Louella Beeson Maxey, was born near Oblong, Illinois on November 18, 1911, and passed away at the Rainbow Inn Retirement Home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on December 15, 2005, at the age of 94 years and 27 days. She had lived in the St. Louis, Missouri for many years and had resided in Puxico, Missouri since 1965. She was a retired Clerical Stenographer at Riegel Textile Corporation. She was raised in the Seed Chapel Church in Oblong, Illinois and attended the Pleasant Valley Church in Puxico, Missouri, Order of the Eastern Star and was active at the Senior Citizens Center in Puxico, Missouri. On August 26, 1933, she was married to Homer Loyd Pope, he preceded her in death on July 23, 1975. Surviving are one brother, Charles A. Maxey of Valparaiso, Indiana, several nieces and several nephews. Other relatives and many friends also survive, including special friends, Harold, Georgia and Ken Simpson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Loyd Maxey, and three sisters, Edith Irene Musgrave, Hattie Marie McGee and Naomi Beatrice Allen. Friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday, December 19, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri. A Eastern Star service will be held at 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 19, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with the Rev. Amos Dees and Rev. Wiley McGhee both of Puxico, Missouri officiating. Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
