Vernon "Smoky" Johnson of Parma, son of Rubel and Lottie May (Burch) Johnson, was born in Catron, Missouri, on October 11, 1922 and passed away at the Missouri State Veteran's home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, June 12, 2020, at the age 97 years 8 months 1 day. He had been a resident of Parma for many years. He had worked at the Barton Lumber Company in Parma before retiring. Smoky was in the US Army and served our country over seas in North Africa, and Italy with the 37th General Hospital. He is survived by one son, George E. Davis of Linden, Michigan; one grandchild Douglas Mitchell,and one great grandchild Garrett Baumbach; two brothers, George Ellerbrook of Weatherford, Texas, and Jack Ellerbrook of Arlington,Texas; one sister, Doris Allen of Cape Girardeau,Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Rubel and Lottie (Johnson) Ellerbrook, and his wife Laura Johnson, and by his sister, Marcella Hon and his grandchild Christina Baumbach. Friends may visit Tuesday, June 16, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Parma, Missouri. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Parma with the Rev. Tom McCanless of Perkins, Missouri officiating. Interment with be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
