Wilma Jean Avery, daughter of the late Benjamin, and Lula Josephine Roberts Brown was born in Bell City, Missouri on January 31, 1927, and passed away at her home near Whitewater, Missouri on January 7, 2010, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 7 days. She had lived in Essex, Missouri before moving to Whitewater, Missouri in 1995. She had attended the Castor River General Baptist Church and Clines Island General Baptist, and was a retired Rural Mail Carrier for the US Postal Service in Dexter Missouri. On December 22, 1945, she was married to Ira Avery in New London, Connecticut. Surviving are her husband, Ira Avery of Whitewater, Missouri, three sons James Avery and Steve Avery of San Antonio, Texas, Dennis Avery of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, James Lee Brown of Grand Junction, Colorado; one sister, Dorothy Faye Eaton of Wentzville, Missouri. Other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by one son Mike Avery, and one brother Benjamin Brown. Visitation will be Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Services will be held Monday, January 11, 2010, 1:00 PM in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Pastor Dalton Avery of Rolla, Missouri officiating. Internment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Bell City, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
