William Newton Hicks, the son of the late George Roland Hicks and Trannie Mae Ingle Hicks, was born in Double Springs, Alabama on July 22, 1919, and passed away at his home in Essex, Missouri on December 5, 2005, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 13 days.
Mr. Hicks had been a resident of Essex, Missouri for 25 years. He was a former resident of Boone, Iowa and was a retired Operations Engineer for Iowa Power. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Ruling Elder with the Presbyterian Church, a member of Mt. Olive Church in Boone, Iowa, the Dexter Elks Lodge, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge # 79 where he was a 32nd degree mason in Boone, Iowa, Scottish Rite 320 of St. Louis, MO, Order Of The Eastern Star in Dexter, MO and the Shriners ZAGA ZIG Temple in Boone Iowa.
On June 2, 1980, he was married to Thelma M. Munden in Ames, Iowa. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2004.
Surviving are 6 brothers: Ed Hicks of Advance, MO, Cecil and Bob Hicks both of Essex, MO, Dee Wayne Hicks of Jackson, MO, Lamar Hicks of Kansas City, MO and Jerry Hicks of Haleyville, AL, 2 sisters: Jewell Ramsey of Magnolia, TX and Lois Richards of Union, MI. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by 1 son: Benny Joe Hicks who was killed during the Vietnam War, 1 brother: Billy Hicks, 2 sisters: Gertrude Hicks and Lorene Fulgham.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2005, at 1:00 P.M. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. Ernie Rogers of Polar Bluff, Missouri officiating.
Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements
