Violet Matthews
Violet Matthews, daughter of the late Loren Thomas and Audrey Tolbert Mitchell, was born in Carrier Mills, Illinois on September 9, 1939, and passed away at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on March 12, 2010, at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 3 days.
Mrs. Matthews had lived in Desoto, Missouri for several years and moved to Dexter, Missouri in 1993. She was a member of the First Church of God in Dexter, Missouri and was a member of the A.R.C. in Dexter, Missouri.
She was first married to James E. Wade and he preceded her in death in 1987. On July 5, 2008, she was married to Walter Matthews in Dexter, Missouri.
Surviving are her husband, Walter Matthews of Dexter, Missouri; four sons, James Wade and Randy Wade both of Dexter, Missouri, Michael Wade of Desoto, Missouri, Bob Wade of Ringgold, Georgia; two daughters, Katherine Spruell of Dittmer, Missouri, Brenda Wade of Dexter, Missouri; three grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie Mitchell of Arkansas, Gary Mitchell of Potosi, Missouri; seven sisters, Barb Webber of Pacific, Missouri, Roberta Childers of Wappapello, Missouri, Estelle Barks of Dexter, Missouri, Wilda Crawford of Elkton, Kentucky, Rita Linn of Yellville, Arkansas, Debra Conrad of Pontoon, Illinois and Marilyn Nolen of Portageville, Missouri. Many other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Don, Carl, Clifford and Gene Mitchell.
Friends may call on Monday, March 15, 2010, after 1:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 2:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Pastor Ray Rowland of Dexter, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri.
