Velma Green, the daughter of the late James and Lydia Mason Gidcumb, was born in Vinson, Missouri on June 6, 1922, and passed away at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri on August 28, 2006, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 22 days. Mrs. Green had lived in the Bernie, Missouri area most of her life and had moved to Dexter two years ago. She had attended the Bernie General Baptist Church in Bernie, Missouri. On September 13, 1941 she was married to Charles C. Green in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death in 1996. Surviving are one daughter, Susie Riddle of Bloomfield, Missouri; two grandchildren, Amy Riddle Riley of Dexter, Missouri, Casey Riddle of Sikeston, Missouri; and four great grandchildren, Chapen and Griffin Riley of Dexter, Missouri and Jase and Bo Riddle of Sikeston, Missouri, two sisters, Ola Sifford of Bernie, Missouri and Opal Ellsworth of Campbell, Missouri. Other friends and relatives also survive. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lydia Jane Green on June 6, 2003, and two sisters, Effie Joseph and Ruth Joseph. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Brian Johnson of Campbell, Missouri officiating. Interment will be in the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
