Sylvia Lou Maddox Hurst, daughter of the late George Landy and Sallie Jewell Robinson Maddox, was born in Choctaw, Arkansas on November 4, 1935, and passed away at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Missouri on December 31, 2012, at the age of 77 years. She had lived in the Malden and Campbell areas before moving to Dexter in 1973, she later moved to Bloomfield. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Dexter. She was first married to Chester Buie in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1953. She later married Earl Dean Powell on February 20, 1960. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1996. She was married to George A. Hurst in Bloomfield, Missouri in 2006. Surviving are her husband, George A. Hurst of Bloomfield; one son & spouse, Scotty & Faye Buie of Malden; two grandsons, Shannon Buie of Campbell, Heath Buie of Salem, Missouri; two great grandsons, Jake Buie of Malden, Hunter Buie of Salem; and one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Buie of Broseley. Other family and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Donny Ray Buie, five brothers, Bill Dean, Billy George, John, Tommy and Bob G. Maddox; and three sisters, Loene Bradford, Wanda Sanders, and Helen Redman. Visitation will be held on Friday January 4, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Bro. Ken Franklin of Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
