Shirley Jean Mitchell, the daughter of the late Thomas and Flora Ruth Kenser Young, was born in Keiser, Arkansas on February 16, 1932, and passed away at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on January 21, 2009 at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Mitchell had lived in Puxico for several years, and had lived in the Patton and Marble Hill area until 2006, when she moved to Cape Girardeau. She was retired from the Thorngate Limited Company and was a member of the Calvary Pentecost Church in Jackson, Missouri. She enjoyed reading, sewing, bird watching and being with her family.
On February 14, 1953, she was married to David E. Mitchell in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2001.
Surviving are three sons, David Glenn Mitchell of Fredericktown, Missouri, Gordon Craig Mitchell of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Michael Scott Mitchell of Marion, Illinois; three daughters, Patricia Ann Cooper of Puxico, Missouri, Cathy Jean Allen of Leopold, Missouri, Carol Sue Mitchell of Kilgore, Texas; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Patsy Deloris Bishop of Jackson, Tennessee. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carroll Richmond, Winfred Eugene, and Raymond Grady Young and two sisters, Wilma Ruth Eaton and Lois Young.
Friends may call on Friday, January 23, 2009, after 5:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 10:00 AM in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with the Rev. David Jackson of St. Louis, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Duck Creek Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
