Pamela Sue Abelson
Pamela Sue Abelson, the daughter of Gail and Gale Allen King, was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on August 26, 1950, and passed away at her home in Tacoma, Washington on December 15, 2008, at the age of 58 years, 3 months and 19 days.
Mrs. Abelson attended grade school in Perryville, Missouri where her family lived for ten years. She graduated from Truman High School in Independence, Missouri. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri Conservatory of Music, where she received a degree in Choral Music and a Masters Degree in Curriculum Development.
Sue and Dr. Norman Abelson were married in December of 1976. Dr. Abelson was a professor at the Conservatory of Music. He preceded her in death in November of 2006. She taught choral music in the Kansas City Public School system fro several years before moving to Tacoma, Washington. She taught choral music in the Tacoma Public School System for seventeen years until her death. While teaching in Tacoma she received several awards. Some of those awards include, the 1994 Washington State Teacher of the Year, 2002 Seattle Music Festival Sweepstakes Award for her Choral Program, Certificate of Appreciation from the U. S. Army JROTC, and one of her most coveted awards was being invited and taking her choir from Foss High School in Tacoma to perform in Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Sue was an accomplished pianist and she was a talented soprano soloist. She had done some opera work as well as singing in several musicals.
Surviving are her parents, Gail and Gale King of Jackson, Missouri; one sister, Kathryn King of Jackson, Missouri; one brother and wife, Scott & Tawny King of Louisburg, Kansas; one niece, Madalyn Bruegging, and two nephews, Tristan and Quinlan King. Other relatives and many friends also survive.
Friends may call on Saturday December 20, 2008, after 10:00 AM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 11:00 AM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with the Rev. John Rice of Jackson, Missouri officiating.
Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
