Opal "Gene" Sims, daughter of the late William Steven and Nannie Belle Farish Clay, was born in Winston County, Mississippi on April 19, 1925, and passed away at The Manor in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on March 1, 2012, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 11 days.
Opal had been a resident Milledgeville, Georgia, moved to Dexter, Missouri thirty-five years ago and then to Poplar Bluff seven years ago. She had been a member of the Eagles and the Spring River Eastern Star #626 and was of the Baptist faith.
On August 17, 1942, she was married to Haley Sims in Malden, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Surviving are two sisters, Rose Mary Roberts of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Margaret Bailey of Milledgeville, Georgia and two brothers, Ansel Clay of Dexter, Missouri, Welton Clay of Inverness, Florida; many nieces and nephews. Other relatives and friends also survive. She is preceded in death by two brothers: Brooks Clay and Frank Clay. Two sisters: Mabel George and Francis Hill.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012, after 12:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 4 , 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri.
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
