Oliver William "Bub" Hartz, son of the late Melvin Anderson and Missouri Ellen Potter Hartz, was born near Leora (Toadsuck), Missouri on April 16, 1918, otherwise known as "Bub" to his friends and associates. He was 90 years, 3 months and 10 days.
Mr. Hartz lived near Puxico from childhood towards World War II. He spent his war years in small arms manufacturing and doing railroad work. He and his young family returned to Puxico after the War to farm and toil at the Puxico Handle Factory. They moved to Bakersfield, California in 1957 Where Bub and Boots remained for 30 years until returning to Puxico. His longtime belief was in the Holy Roller Tradition. He was a long time member of the Puxico Masonic Lodge. He held family as important and making sure one takes care of family.
On October 7, 1936, he was married to Beulah "Boots" Johnston in Puxico, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2006.
Surviving are one son, Dwain and his wife Sandra Hartz of Sparks, Nevada; two grandchildren, Christopher Hartz and wife, Jen of Tokoyo, Japan, Nicholas Hartz and wife, Teresa of Littleton, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Marie and Kathleen Elizabeth Hartz both of Littleton, Colorado, Lauren and Bryce Hartz both of Tokoyo, Japan; and one brother, Rev. John Leslie Hartz of Marionville, Missouri. Many other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Truman and Daniel Lewis Hartz and one sister, Thelma Powell.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 11:00 AM in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with the Rev. Wiley McGhee of Puxico, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
