Minnie V. Shrum, daughter of the late Frank and Annie Cook Matthews, was born in Fredericktown, Missouri on November 18, 1924, and passed away at her home in Puxico, Missouri on April 17, 2011, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 30 days. She had lived in the St. Louis, Missouri for several years and moved to Puxico in 1960. She was a member of the Duck Creek Missionary Baptist Church near Puxico, Missouri where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for 25 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star where she served as Warder. She had worked for Elder's Manufacturing for 25 years as a presser and was shop steward. She also served as New Lisbon Township Tax Collector. She loved singing, gardening and traveling. On August 3, 1946, she was married to Joe Elbert Shrum in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1972. Surviving are one son, Ronnie (Lavonda) Shrum of Puxico; three daughters, Barbara Ford of Puxico, Missouri, Brenda (Darrell) Welsh of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sandra (Wayne) Hargrave of Bismark, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Joey & Wesley Faries, Charity Rush, Randy & Ryan Robertson, Rachelle Ham, Bryan & Sherry Shrum; nineteen great grandchildren, William Rush, Carmen, Chelsi, Dillion, Kristin & Hannah Faries, C. J., Randa, Luke, Lily, Jacob, Katelyn and Jamie Robertson, Nicholas, Kobie and Mariah Ham, Travis, Logan and Kennedy Boswell; one great great grandchild, Devin Robertson; one brother, Ralph Matthews of Farmington, Missouri; and one sister, Norma Jean Zettwoch of Creve Coeur, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Mason, Stewart & U.S. Matthrews; and three sisters, Lillian Pope, Tressie Griffin & Hester Yount. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 19, 2011, after 6:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri. Eastern Star Services will be held at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Duck Creek Missionary Baptist Church near Puxico with Pastor David Edwards of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Pastor Robert Stevens of Poplar Bluff, Missouri officiating. Interment will be in the Elliott Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
