Melvin C. Stewart, the son of the late Andrew Jasper and Opal Lucille Fowler Stewart, was born near Puxico, Missouri on April 2, 1937, and passed away at the St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, Missouri on June 13, 2009, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 11 days.
Mr. Stewart had lived in St. Louis, Missouri where he had been employed by Edward Jones for 37 years. Upon his retirement he involved himself with volunteer work at the St. Louis City Museum.
He leaves behind many friends and acquaintances, most notable Dave Linnertz of St. Louis, Missouri.
Family surviving are one brother, Donald R. Stewart of Sikeston, Missouri; five sisters, Margaret Barnes of Jefferson City, Missouri, Patricia Gallamore of Beloit, Wisconsin, Carolyn Casey of Dexter, Missouri, Connie Grady of Benton, Missouri, Effie Hughes of Morehouse, Missouri. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin & Olan Stewart, and three sisters, Iva Jane Hale, Della Mobeley and Alberta Trout.
Friends may call on Friday, June 19, 2009, after 1:00 PM at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2009, at 2:00 PM in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri with the Rev. Kenneth Gaines of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield, Missouri with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
