Melvin Simmons of Catron, son of the late Harold Wayne and Julia Blair Simmons, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 2, 1946, and passed away at his home in Catron on May 25, 2019, at the age of 73 years, 2 month and 23 days.
Mr. Simmons spent his life in Catron. He owned Simmons used cars. He was of the Baptist faith.
On January 5, 1967, he was married to Stella Akridge in St. Louis, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 4, 2012.
Surviving are; two sons, Gene Simmons and Shawn Simmons both of Catron; one daughter, Tammy Whiffen of Matthews, two grandchildren; Matthew Simmons and Kyle Whiffen; one brother, David Simmons of New Madrid; and two sisters, Mary Baca of Moline Illinois, and Judy Obenhus of St. Louis, Missouri. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother Harold "Butch" Simmons, and one sister, Marilyn Simmons.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, after 9:00 am at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter until time for services at 10:00 am with Bro. Jimmy Johnson of Portageville officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mounds Cemetery in New Madrid, Missouri, with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
