Mary J. James, daughter of the late Leonard and Hattie Strickland James, was born in Savanah, Tennessee on September 18, 1930, and passed away at the Gideon Care Center in Gideon, Missouri on November 7, 2009, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 20 days.
Mrs. James had lived in St. Louis and Granite City, Illinois before moving to Bloomfield in 1975. She was a member of the Hills Church near Bloomfield, Missouri.
On June 11, 1949, she was married to William Joseph James. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2008.
Surviving are one son, William D. James of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Kim Hayes of Malden, Missouri, Sherry McCollom of Bloomfield, Missouri, Wanda Gregory of Highland, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Bill Wilkinson, Amanda McCollom, Chris James, and Michael Webb all of Bloomfield, Missouri, Mike Gregory of Highland, Illinois, Brandon James of Dallas, Texas, Travis James CTRSN (USN) stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Joshua James of Houston, Texas, Stephanie Hayes of Malden, Missouri; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Elvin Terry of Granite City, Illinois; two sisters, Virginia Livingston of Moscow Mills, Missouri and Liz Chambers of St. Peters, Missouri. Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roland, Tom and J. T. Terry.
Friends may call on Monday, November 9, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at 11:00 AM at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri with the Cleo Payne of Gideon, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield, Missouri with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
