Maggie Lee Thornton, affectionately known as Pee-Wee, passed away on July 29, 2024 at Puxico, Missouri. She was born on July 17, 1952, in Webb, Mississippi, to Andrew and Hattie (Chairs) Cohen. Maggie was a beloved soul who touched the hearts of many with her kind spirit and loving nature.

On November 2, 1984, Maggie married the love of her life Perry Thornton, Sr. in Malden, Missouri and they remained married until the time of his passing on May 10, 2022.

Maggie was a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Essex, Missouri. 

Throughout her life, Maggie found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for fishing and cooking, but above all, she cherished the moments spent with her family, especially spoiling her grandchildren with love and affection.  Maggie loved to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals, but her favorite past time was listening to her brother-in-law, Bobby sing or tell stories. 

Maggie is survived by a large and loving family who will always hold her memory dear. She is survived by five sons: Dennis Thornton of Essex, Missouri; Perry and wife Amber Thornton of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Mark Thornton of Sikeston, Missouri; Stanley and wife Suzi Smith of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Greg and Maria Smith of Independence, Missouri. Additionally, she is survived by one daughter, Julia Thornton of Essex, Missouri.

Her presence will be deeply missed by thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild with another on the way. Maggie is also survived by two brothers: Jessie Chairs and Elijah Perry both of Detroit Michigan; three sisters: Shirley Cohen, Laura Butts, Teresa Chairs all of Detroit Michigan; a close friend and transit driver, Mr. Rodgers .

In the embrace of eternity, Maggie joins her loved ones who passed before her: her parents; her husband Perry Thornton Sr.; one brother James Cohen; three sisters Ann, Mary, and Doris Cohen; and one grandson Taylor.

A celebration of Maggie's life will be held at Malden Community Center in Malden Missouri on August 10, 2024. The visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by the Celebration of Life service at 12:00 PM. with Pastor Moses Grayson officiating. The interment will be at Macedonia Cemetery in Malden at 3:00 PM on the same day.

Maggie Lee Thornton's presence brought warmth and love to all who knew her. May she rest in peace knowing she was cherished by many.
