Lyman Fowler, son of the late Floyd and Lottie Helderman Fowler, was born in Advance, Missouri on April 6, 1926, and passed away at his home in Puxico on July 4, 2014, at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 28 days.
He had lived in the Puxico area most of his life. He had worked for the Missouri Highway Department, farmed and had driven a school bus for the Puxico School District for 26 years. He was a member of the Corinth General Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for forty years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, during WWII, serving in the European Theater in the Battle of the Bulge, and was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 7822 in Puxico and the D.A.V. He had also been inducted in the Southeast Missouri Baseball Hall of Fame. He helped organize the Little League Baseball Program in Puxico, loved hunting, fishing and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
On November 1, 1946, he was married to Mary Belle Scott in Bloomfield, Missouri. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2005.
Surviving are two sons & wives, Dennis & Ava Fowler of Advance, Missouri, Kenny & Bambi Fowler of Jackson, Missouri; two daughters & husbands, Becky & Curt Richmann of Dexter, Missourim, Tammy & Joe Wilson of Puxico, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Shelly Clark, Amanda Fortner, Rebecca Arends, Christopher Fowler, Heidi Langston, Hannah Robinson, Jason Fowler, Brittney Huffman, Amber Fowler and Annie Wilson; eighteen great grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Fowler of Puxico; and one sister, Elwanda Sebree of Dudley. Other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Fowler and Barbara Oliver.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 8, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri. V.F.W. services will be at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with Bro. Bob Bradford of Delta and Bro. Ray Placher of Puxico officiating.
Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
