Leondard "J.L." Funkhouser, Jr., the son of the late Leonard, Sr. and Effie Jennings Funkhouser, was born near Dexter, Missouri on March 3, 1925, and passed away at his home in Smyrna, Tennessee on November 14, 2008, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 11 days.
Mr. Funkhouser had lived in the Dexter most of his life and moved to Smyrna, Tennessee several years ago. He was a road foreman with Liberty Township in Stoddard County and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during WWII.
On June 7, 1947, he was married to Doris Kathleen George in Piggott, Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Kathleen Funkhouser of Smyrna, Tennessee; one son, Ronnie Funkhouser of Smyrna, Tennessee; one daughter, Connie Crocker of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; one grandson and wife, Chris and Beth Crocker; two great grandchildren, Maycie Elizabeth Crocker and Christopher Maddox Crocker. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by eight sisters, Hallie May Ward, Mable Griffin, Lula Hollett, Edna Dowdy, Ruth Keller, Pearl Dowdy, Edith White, and Hazel Snyder.
Friends may visit on Tuesday November 18, 2008, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at 1:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
