Lena Harrison

Lena Harrison, daughter of the late George and Charlotte Sumpter McKenzie, was born in Wayne County, Missouri, on September 18, 1916, and passed away at the Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 13, 2011, at the age of 94 years, 4 months and 26 days. She had lived in the Parma, Missouri area more than 50 years before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, and has lived in Brentwood, Tennesse the past eight years. She was a member of the Parma United Methodist Church and had been active in the church as well as many clubs and organizations during her time in Parma. She had taught school in the Parma School System and was the elementary school principal at the beginning of her career, as well as a devoted wife and business partner with her husband. On January 27, 1945, she was married to Orval E. "Monk" Harrison in Piggott, Arkansas. Surviving are her husband, Orval E. "Monk" Harrison of Brentwood, Tennessee; one daughter, Jane Harrison of Brentwood, Tennessee; one brother, Wayne McKenzie of Parma, Missouri; and one sister, Ruth Greenwood of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and many beloved nieces and nephews. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Edward McKenzie, and three sisters, Jean McKenzie, Thelma Allen and Evia Calhoun. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011, after 10:00 am at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Parma, Missouri. Services will be held Wednesday, Febraury 16, 2011, at 1:00 pm in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Parma, Missouri, with Allen Tesreau of Campbell, Missouri, and the Rev. Roy Sherfield of Dexter, Missouri, officiating. Interment will be in the Park Cemetery in Malden, Missouri, with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Parma, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
