Leland Hendrix, son of the late Monroe and Fayette Summers Hendrix, was born in Zalma, Missouri on May 24, 1921, and passed away at the Westwood Hills Health Care Facility in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on January 4, 2011, at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 11 days.
He was raised in Puxico and attended the Puxico schools. In 1951, he moved to Alton, Illinois where he was employed by Alton Box Board as a mill wright. He moved back to the Wappapello area in 1990. He was a member of the Lakeland Assembly of God Church in Wappapello, Missouri. He loved traveling and gardening.
On November 2, 1946, he was married to Velvadean Overton in Piggott, Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife, Velvadean Hendrix of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one son & spouse, Richard & Jenny Hendrix of Apple Valley, Minnesota; three daughters and spouses, Connie Hendrix and Lula & Michael Larson both of Kansas City, Missouri, Paula & Larry Wooldridge of Maryville, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Rachael Butler, Matthew Wooldridge, Christopher Hendrix, David Schwent, Ryan McBee and Mia Souterland; ten great grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 9, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.
Services will be held Monday, January 10, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with the Rev. Arvin Haynes of Wappapello, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Fagan Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
