L. J. Harwood, Sr.
L. J. Harwood, Sr., the son of the late Perd and Annie Hill Harwood, was born in Center Ridge, Arkansas on May 4, 1926, and passed away at the Sells Close to Home Nursing Center in Matthews, Missouri on January 4, 2009 at the age of 82 years, 8 months.
Mr. Harwood had lived in the Canalou area most all his life. He was retired from the Geminhardt Grain Elevator where he worked as a Laborer and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was also a veteran of the US Navy serving during WW II.
On September 19, 1951, he was married to Emma Lee Scroggins in Piggott, Arkansas, she preceded him in death on June 20, 2000
Surviving are two sons: Larry Harwood, Jr and Gary Harwood both of Sikeston, Missouri. Two daughters: Sonja Meek of Arlington, Tennessee and Carolyn Farrenburg of New Madrid, Missouri. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by Four sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at 2:00 PM in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Morehouse, Missouri with Preacher Jimmy Colvett of Matthews, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Matthews Community Cemetery in Matthews, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Morehouse, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
