Joyce M. Chapman, daughter of the late Thomas Edgar and Viola Ester Hume Griffin, was born in Malden, Missouri, on October 26, 1934, and passed away at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Home in Dexter, Missouri on October 14, 2014, at the age of 79 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
Mrs. Chapman had lived around the Essex area her entire life. She was a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church in Essex, Missouri. She had worked at Hart Truck Lines and Fram Filters as their secretary and as a cook at Richland Schools.
On April 16, 1955, she was married to Harold W. "Bud" Chapman in Essex, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2004.
Surviving are one son and daughter in law, Harold & Cherie Chapman of Columbia, Missouri; two daughters and son in laws, Carla & Mike Taylor of Sikeston, Missouri and Christy & Brett Dorton of Dexter, Missouri; nine grandchildren; five brothers, Charles, Jerry, Bobby, and Danny Griffin all of Dexter, Missouri and Larry Griffin of Caruthersville, Missouri; and one sister, Cathy Graham of Scott City, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother in infancy, Donald Griffin.
Friends may visit Friday, October 17, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Dale McFarland of Sikeston, Missouri officiating.
Interment with be in the Old Bethel Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
