John Henry Davis, Sr. the son of the late Nelson Davis and Lacy Branchcomb Davis, was born in , Missouri on April 27, 1927, and passed away at his home near Essex, Missouri on January 30, 2007, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 3 days. He had lived in Essex, Missouri the past 57 years. He was a retired farmer. In 1946, he was married to Beatrice Hester in Charleston, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1995. Surviving are seven sons, Tommy Lee Davis, John Jr. Davis, and Larry Henry Davis all of St. Louis, Missouri, Randy Davis of Memphis, Tennessee, Ricky Davis of Essex, Missouri, Kenny and Ronnie Dale Farr both of Howardsville, Missouri; eight daughters, Barbara Tippett of St. Louis, Missouri, Michelle Davis of Atlanta, Georgia, Carolyn Weaver of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Jackie Warfield, Gwender Davis and Sherry Davis all of Sikeston, Missouri, Janice McFerren of New Madrid and Judy Robinson of Salem, North Carolina; 45 grandchildren, many many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; a special friend, Willie Mae Chamberlain of Essex, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Friends may call on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 10:00 A.M. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 12:00 noon at the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri with Rev. Ricky Davis of Essex and Pastor Ronnie Webb of Poplar Bluff. Missouri officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.
