Joe M. Hampton, the son of the late David and Mary Hamlett Hampton, was born near Steele, Missouri on October 4, 1921, and passed away at the Grandview Healthcare Center in Washington, Missouri on March 12, 2007, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 8 days.
He had lived in St. Charles and Robertsville most of his life. He lived in Dudley and New Madrid from 1992 until 2006 when he moved to Beaufort, Missouri. He was a retired plumbing contractor.
He was first married to Berniece Franks, she preceded him in death in 1954.
On November 16, 1957, he was married to Mae G. Barber in Hernando, Mississippi. She preceded him in death on May 25, 1990.
He later married Margaret Jimmerson and she preceded him in death in 2001.
Surviving are one son, Bill Hampton of Yucaipa, California; three daughters, Pat Hoeft of Beaufort, Missouri, Wanda Leathers of LaBelle, Florida, Mary Foster of Kennett, Missouri; one step-daughter, Faye Hopper of Nixa, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, George Hampton of Dexter, Missouri; four sisters, Helen Naile of Farmington, Missouri, Betty McCullough of Sikeston, Missouri, Pauline Lindsey of Harrisburg, Arkansas, and Mildred Aaron of Anderson, Indiana. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Hampton; one step-son, George Leon Emory; two step daughters, Mary Esick and Pansy Barr; three brothers, Charles Hampton, Sr., Bob Hampton, and Nub Hampton.
Friends may call on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at 1:00 P.M. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. Tim Ingle of Bernie, Missouri officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dudley Cemetery in Dudley, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home of Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.
