Jewel Alvin Phegley
Jewel Alvin Phegley, the son of the late Albert Manning and Addie Mary Vaillant Phegley, was born in Vanduser, Missouri on June 4, 1926, and passed away at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri on May 5, 2005, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 1 day.
Mr. Phegley had served in the Army from 1945 to 1965 and moved to Dexter in 1973. He was in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts where he served as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corp. He had served in Austria, Germany and the United States. After leaving the Army he was employed by the Silvey Insurance Company as an underwriter for twenty-three years. He was a member of the Westside Southern Baptist Church of Dexter and was also an ordained Southern Baptist Minister. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion of Dexter, Missouri.
On May 3, 1944, he was married to Mildred Effie Mills in Dexter, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred E. Phegley of Dexter, Missouri; two sons, Richard Lee (Mary) Phegley of Ashburn, Virginia, Albert Andrew (Shannon) Phegley of Roby, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Louise (Mike) Hawkins of Albion, Illinois, Pamela Jane (Glen) Wooley of Madisonville, Kentucky; ten grandchildren, Richard Lee (Carolyn) Phegley, Jr., Scot Andrew (Kim) Phegley, Brian Douglas Phegley, Michael Wayne (Jessica) Hawkins, Melissa Rose (Dhafer) Al-makuter, Amanda Rachelle (Ben) Edwards, Christine Janelle (Aaron) Silas, Alvin Andrew Phegley, Morgan Elliott, Madison Elliott; eleven great grandchildren, Jacob Phegley, Samuel Phegley, Parker Phegley, Claire Phegley, Ansley Silas, Allison Edwards, Joseph Al-makuter, Jakob Al-makuter, Christopher Hawkins, Sarah Hawkins, Austin West; one brother, Dempsey Phegley of Fairview Heights, Illinois; and one sister, Lila Mae Dowdy of Dexter, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one great grandson, Trace Phegley; three brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 7, 2005, at 1:00 P.M. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Earl Scott of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma officiating and the Rev. Mike Hawkins of Albion, Illinois assisting.
Interment will be in the Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery near Morley, Missouri with full military honors conducted by the Stoddard County Veteran's Honor Team, Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
