Jerry Dean Layton of Dexter, son of the late William Burton and Elsie Tuttle Layton, was born in Essex, Missouri on September 14, 1936, and passed away at his home in Dexter on January 24, 2016, at the age of 79 years 4 months, and 10 days.
Jerry had lived in Arnold, Missouri until moving to Dexter in 1990. He had attended the New Bethel General Baptist Church in Dexter. He had been a truck driver before he retired had served in the Missouri National Guard for many years.
On June 15, 1985, he was married to Juanita Hubbard.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Layton of Dexter; one son & wife, Brad & Kris Layton of Imperial, Missouri; one daughter & husband, Dena & Brian Mentel of St. Louis, Missouri; two step-daughters & husbands, Janet & David Cox of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Kelly & Jerry Hill of Laquey, Missouri; two grandchildren, Josh Layton & Delana Mentel; two step grandchildren & spouses, Stacy & Chris Simmering, Jodie & Jim Lacy; six step great grandchildren; Devin, Macie, Jordyn and Zach Simmering, Bo and Riley Lacy; one sister in law, Pansy Layton of Dexter. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Harold & Fred Layton; and two sisters, Marguerite Burke and Frances Russell.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. At the New Bethel General Baptist Church in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. Dean Williams of Dexter officiating.
