Jefferson "Jeff" Monroe Hickman, the son of the late Arthur and Dora Oliver Hickman, was born in Puxico, Missouri on December 22, 1923, and passed away at The Cedargate in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on May 21, 2009, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 29 days.
He had lived Puxico, Hayti and Willow Springs before retiring to Poplar Bluff. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Missouri State Highway Patrolman serving at Troop G in Willow Springs. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Hayti, Missouri and a 32nd Degree Mason at the Lodge in Hayti. Mr. Hickman had served in the United States Army Air Corp as a staff sergeant in th 445th bombardment squadron, 321st bombardment group where he was a tail gunner. His hobbie included hunting, woodworking, geneology and reading.
On September 18, 1943, he was married to Margie Magaline Shull in California. She preceded him in death on September 9, 1991.
Surviving are one son and daughter in law, Lonnie and Patty Hickman of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one daughter, Brenda Bond of Atoka, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Other relatives and many friends survive to mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Friends may call on Friday, May 22, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 10:00 AM in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with Rev. Ed Stoner of Dexter, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Duck Creek Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements. Missouri State Highway Patrol will provide the honor guard.
