James Thomas "Star" Tanner of Wappapello, son of the late Thomas Edward and Cora Blanche Ramsey Tanner, was born in Puxico, Missouri on October 18, 1923, and passed away at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on November 29, 2015, at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 11 days.
He had lived in the Puxico and Wappapello areas most of his life. He had worked at the Puxico Handle Company before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, had served during WWII and was a former member of the Puxico VFW Post. He enjoyed trapping wild animals, fishing and playing bingo at the Wappapello Eagles.
He was first married to Inga Borg in Germany. She preceded him in death on December 2010. On June 24, 1981 he was married to Bernice Hart at the Puxico Civic Center. She prededed him in death on June 11, 1999.
Surviving are three daughters, Virginia Stone of Warren, Oklahoma, Mary Ann Becker of Denver, Colorado, Christa Willard of Puxico, Missouri; three sons, Edward Tanner of , Florida, Ronald Tanner of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Harold Tanner of Puxico, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, four brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico, with the Rev. Ray Placher of Puxico officiating.
Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri, in charge of arrangements.
