James “J.D.” Metcalf, son of the late James Otto and Ethel Arlean Kelso Metcalf, was born in Himmel, Missouri on January 26, 1932, and passed away at his home near Bloomfield, Missouri on January 23, 2016, at the age of 83 years. He had lived in the Bloomfield area all of his life. He had worked for 37 years and retired from the REA Electric Cooperative. He was a veteran U. S. Marines and had served during the Korean Conflict and was of the Baptist Faith. On July 24, 1954 he was married to Velda Fay Pruett in Aquilla, Missouri. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1997. Surviving are one son, Donald “Blue” Metcalf of Bloomfield, Missouri; two daughters, Deborah Metcalf and Glenda Johnson both of Bloomfield, Missouri; one granddaughter, Cynthia Johnson of Bloomfield, Missouri; one great granddaughter, Courtney Fay Johnson of Bloomfield; three brothers, Duane & Lawson Metcalf both of Dexter, Missouri, Dwight Metcalf of Bell City, Missouri; three sisters, Ilean Hafle of Benton, Arkansas, Kay Goggins of St. Louis, Missouri and Willene Sturgeon of Bloomfield, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cleo Locke and Mary Lee Sparger. Friends may visit on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Interment will follow at the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
