James William Newton Gant, the son of Marvin Henry and Mary Jane Bell Gant, was born in Saltillo, Tennessee on September 20, 1921, and passed away at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on October 2, 2007, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 12 days.
Mr. Gant had lived in various states including three years in Alaska. He met and married Danny Daniels in California and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he spent many years. His wife preceded him in death on April 11, 2002. He moved to Dudley, Missouri in 2005.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruby Holman of Visalia, California and Viola Williams of Springdale, Arkansas as well as many nieces and nephews. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bruce, Roy and Aubrey Gant, and two sisters, Beulah Morgan and Annie Mae Matthews.
Friends may call on Thursday October 4, 2007, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Graveside Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 4, 2007, at 2:00 PM at the Missouri Veterna's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Interment will follow in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 59. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
