George Henry Harkness, son of the late Connie Clarence "C.C." and Ather B. Williams Harkness, was born in Pontotoc, Mississippi on December 4, 1930, and passed away at the John J. Pershing V. A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on March 15, 2015, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 11 days.
He had lived in Dexter since 1970 and was a disabled veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was married to Betty Jean Roy and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Roy Wayne Harkness of Ripley, Tennessee, Danny Harkness of Des Arc, Missouri; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Doris Thompson of Dexter, Missouri. Many other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, George Daniel Harkness, three brothers, Clarence, Lamar and Lewis Harkness and one sister, Beatrice Holland.
Friends may call on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter in Dexter.
Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with full military honors, Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
