Garey Dale Hayes Sr., the son of Romey Raymond and Alberta Mae Thomas Hayes, was born in Dudley, Missouri, on September 8,1939, and passed away in Metropolis, Illinois on October 21, 2007, at the age of 68 years 1 month and 7 days. Mr. Hayes moved to California in the 1950s, and moved back home to Stoddard County in 1987. He graduated from Hartnell College in Salinas, California and also Texas A&M University in College Station,Texas. He was a bus driver for Greyhound. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Mormon Church. He attended numerous area churches. His hobbies included electronics and computers.
Surviving are four sons, Garey Dale Hayes Jr. of Dexter, Missouri, Jeffrey Andrew Hayes of Fordsville, Kentucky, Thomas Andrew Hayes of Dudley, Missouri, and Danny Hayes of Dexter, Missouri; One daughter, Pamela Dianne Overfield of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; One sister, Faye Bolster of Dudley, Missouri; One brother, Donald Ray Hayes of Dudley, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister, Judith Ann Williamson.
Friends may call on Wednesday October 24, 2007, after 6:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 25, 2007, at 1:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Larry Ward of Fisk, Missouri officiating.
Interment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
