Floyd Snider, the son of the late Alvin Riley and Ada Grace Bridges Snider, was born in Essex, Missouri on January 25, 1926, and passed away at the Gamma Road Lodge-Golden Living Center in Wellsville, Missouri on October 30, 2009, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 5 days.
Floyd served his country with honor as a United States Marine stationed in the South Pacific during World War II, before returning home to begin a long career with Ford Motor Company. Floyd retired from the Ford plant in Hazelwood, Missouri in 1980, where he had worked as superintendent for many years. After retiring, Floyd was able to return to what he loved doing most, farming.
Floyd was a long-time member of the Puxico General Baptist Church, which he considered his home church even after moving back to Wellsville.
On November 25, 1947, he was married to Margie "Laverne" Rodgers, whom he was married to for more than 62 years.
Surviving are his loving wife, Laverne Snider of Wellsville, Missouri; five cherished children and spouses, Brenda & Melvin Lerch of St. Peters, Missouri, Randall & Kathy Snider of Foristell, Missouri, Rodger Snider of Wentzville, Missouri, Kurtis & Karen Snider of O'Fallon, Missouri, Francine & Andy Spinks of Wellsville, Missouri; beloved grandchildren and spouses, Wendy Lerch and Chris Hynes both of Berkeley, Missouri, Amanda & Steve Yonamine of Sacramento, California, Kevin & Kendall Lerch of Culleoka, Tennessee, James Snider,Shawnna Doyle, Kaitlyn Snider and Austin Snider all of O'Fallon, Missouri, Bryan Snider of Foristell, Missouri, Kacie Spinks of Nashville, Tennessee, Sgt. Jacob Spinks stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Daniel Spinks of Wellsville, Missouri; four treasured great grandchildren, Cierra Lerch and Gabrielle Lerch both of Montgomery City, Missouri, Tanyin Snider and Mylar Snider both of O'Fallon, Missouri; one brother, Loyd Snider of Bloomfield, Missouri; three sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Bloomfield, Missouri, Freda Gyger and Sue Barnfield both of Puxico, Missouri. Other relatives, extended family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Chester Snider; one sister, Eunice Wolpers; and a great granddaughter, Kathleen Breana Lerch.
Friends may call on Monday, November 2, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 1:00 PM at the Puxico General Baptist Church in Puxico, Missouri with the Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with full military honors and escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
