Essie Lee Walters, daughter of the late Ira Lee and Nora Lee Morehead Wicks, was born near Dexter, Missouri on June 5, 1924, and passed away at the Cypress Point Health Care in Dexter, Missouri on May 17, 2009, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 12 days. Mrs. Walters was a life long resident of Stoddard County, attended the rural Vinson Grade School, worked at Brown Shoe Co. in Bernie, was a home maker, and helped with the family farm. She was also a member of TOPS #790, and an active member of the Vinson General Baptist Church near Dexter, Missouri. On April 27, 1940, she was married to Chester G. "Chet" Walters in Dexter, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2009. Surviving are three daughters and sons in law, Norma Jean & Herman "Jack" Jackson of Dexter, Missouri, Elnora & Jim Bernard of Reedsville, Ohio, Janice Sue & Dennis Allen of Geneva, Illinois; six grandchildren, Cerendia (Jackson) & Ray Woollums of Dexter, Keith Jackson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rob & Jackie Allen of Hampshire, Illinois, Jerry & Carrie (Bernard) Jenkins of Vienna, West Virginia, Clayton & Kathy (Bernard) Wolfe-Lambert of Jackson, Ohio, Vince & April (Allen) Salazar of Geneva, Illinois; by eight great grandchildren, Jessica & Ashley Seymore both of Dexter, Madison & Alex Jenkins both of Vienna, West Virginia, Alainna & Sophia Allen both of Hampshire, Illinois, Caytlon & Carissa Lambert both of Jackson, Ohio, Veronica & Anthony Salazar both of Geneva, Geneva, Illinois,; a step grandson, Chad Woollums of Cape Girardeau, and four step great grandchildren, Emma Self, James, Kaylee & Chad Woollums all of Cape Girardeau. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Bennie Lorenzo, Audry, Omer, Ray, C.D., Ivan Harold and two infant grandchildren. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, after 11:00 AM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 1:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating. Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
