Elmer Underwood, son of the late Roy and Josie Quick Underwood, was born on June 16, 1925, in Bloomfield, Missouri and passed away on December 28, 2013, at his home in Bloomfield, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 12 days.
He had lived in Bloomfield all of his life. He attended the General Baptist Church in Bloomfield, was a member of the Masonic Lodge #153, the Scottish Rite, and was a lifetime member of the Amvets. He had served several years on the Bloomfield School Board and had served as President. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and had been a member of the Screaming Eagles, 101st Airborne Paratroopers.
On January 30, 1946, he was married to Anna Lois Cook, and she preceded him in death on September 29, 1993.
Surviving are two sons and wives, Ronnie & Linda Underwood of Sikeston, Dennis and Donna Underwood of Cape Girardeau; one daughter & husband, Karen & Dennis Ziegenhorn of Sikeston; eight grandchildren., Jerri Lynn McKenna, Kip Underwood, Jody Underwood, Tracy Ashley, Dez Ziegenhorn, Kelli Hasty, Bart Ziegenhorn and Jackie Fisher; nineteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Steve & John Underwood both of Bloomfield; and one sister, Geneva Grim of Dexter. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, Donnie Underwood, one brother, Delmar Underwood, two sisters, Francis & Wilma and a special friend, Geraldine Graham.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, after 10:00 am at
the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday December 31, 2013 at 12:00 pm at the
Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Interment will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
