Elmer Allen Swallows, the son of the late Charlie A. and Lula Ruth Swan Swallows, was born in Stoddard County, Missouri on April 1, 1921, and passed away at the Missouri Southern Health Care in Dexter, Missouri on September 19, 2008, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 18 days.
Mr. Swallows had lived in the Dexter and Essex areas his whole life and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter. Elmer also served in the US Navy during WWII.
On August 16, 1947, he was married to Myrtle Slaughter in Piggott, Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Swallows of Dexter, Missouri; two sons, Allen and Dean Swallows both of Dexter, Missouri; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Florence Sanders of Dexter, Missouri. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anderson and Charles Swallows.
Friends may call on Tuesday September 23, 2008, after 8:30 AM at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at 11:00 AM at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Steve Watkins of Dexter, Missouri officiating.
