Edison Dale Gibbs, son of the late Edgar and Odessa Stafford Gibbs, was born in Bell City, Missouri on December 22, 1925, and passed away at his home in Oxly, Missouri on July 24, 2011, at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 2 days.
He retired from the US Navy after 30 plus years as a Gunners Mate Chief Master, serving during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War. He worked and retired as maintenance supervisor for Morristown Hamlin Hospital, Morristown Tennessee. Mr. Gibbs was a Mason, Shriner, and Scottish Rite.
On October 26 1946, he was married to Doris Weaver in Corning, Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife, Doris of Oxly, Missouri; two sons, Michael Gibbs of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Bradley Gibbs of Doniphan Missouri; two brothers Roger Gibbs of Bloomfield Missouri and Wayne Gibbs of Van Buren Missouri; one sister Wilda Ruth Cook of El Passo, Texas. Four grandchildren and five Great-grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son Patrick Stephen Gibbs, one grandson Michael Steven Gibbs, by one granddaughter Melissa Ann Gibbs and two brothers; Don and Glen Gibbs.
Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26 , 2011, at 10 :00 AM at the Bloomfield City Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Stafford of Jonesboro Arkansas officiating.
Interment will be in the Bloomfield City Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
