Dorthy Mae Stroud, daughter of the late James Ray Fields and Bertie Carter Fields Massey, was born in Sycamore, Missouri on June 14, 1932, and passed away at her home near Wappapello, Missouri on April 15, 2010, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 1 day. She had lived in the Morehouse, Missouri area before moving to Wappapello in 1991. She was of the Baptist faith. She was retired from International Shoe Co. after 22 years and had been co-owner of DE & C Market in Morehouse. On May 25, 1956, she was married to Earnest J. Stroud in Blodgett, Missouri. Surviving are her husband, Earnest J. Stroud of Wappapello, Missouri; two sons, Thomas Stroud of Wappapello, Missouri, Chester Stroud of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one daughter, Earnestdean Hornback of Wappapello, Missouri; six grandchildren, Danniel Taylor, Leslie Dering, Thomas Stroud, Jr., Joshua Stroud, Andrew Stroud, Steven Sanders; seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Don Massey and Bill Massey both of Marble Hill, Missouri, Eddie Massey of Tampa, Florida, and Jimmy Massey of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Massey and Jack Fields, one grandson, Christopher Sanders; and her stepfather, Thomas Edgar Massey. Visitation will be Sunday, April 18, 2010, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Services will be held Monday, April 19, 2010, at 1:00 PM in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Harold Sides of Puxico, Missouri officiating. Interment will be in the Triplett Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
