Dorothy Nichols, daughter of the late Delmer B. and Eula Bell Travers, was born in Dexter on July 15, 1919, and passed away at the Gideon Care Center in Gideon on November 2, 2011, at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 18 days.
She had lived in Dexter all of her life where she was a member of the First Christian Church. She had worked as the secretary at the First Christian Church for many years. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, the C.W.F. at the church and had been a member of the Dexter Civic and Study Club.
On November 1, 1940, she was married to Gene V. Nichols in Dexter. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1985.
She is survived by two sons, Tom Nichols of Houston, Texas, Joe Nichols of Jonesboro, Arkansas; four grandchildren, David Nichols of Prague, Czechoslovakia, Michael Nichols of Austin, Texas, Drew Nichols of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Alana Dowdy of Dexter, Missouri; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Robert L. "Bob" Travers of Sun City West, Arizona. Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Travers and one sister, Ruth B. Pruitt.
Friends may visit on Friday, November 4, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 11:00 am at the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Larry Thompson of Dexter officiating.
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
