Delmer R. Underwood, son of the late Roy and Josie Quick Underwood, was
born on June 16, 1925, in Bloomfield, Missouri and passed away at the
Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on August 2,
2012, at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 17 days.
Delmer had lived in Bloomfield all of his life and was a former Mayor.
He and his brother had owned and operated the Underwood Service Station
in Bloomfield for 36 years. He was a combat veteran of the U. S. Army
serving during WWII with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Paratrooper
Division. He was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 153 AF & AM.
the Scottish Rite, and a lifetime member of the Amvets.
On July 6, 1948, he married Imogene Wilkison in Piggott, Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene Underwood of Bloomfield, Missouri; two
grandchildren, Scott Underwood of Florida, Erin Hendershot of Indiana;
seven great grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Underwood, Steve
Underwood and John Underwood all of Bloomfield, Missouri; one sister,
Geneva Grim of Dexter, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also
survive. He was preceded in death by one son, Delmer Dale Underwood on
November 13, 2006.
Friends may visit on Monday August 6, 2012, after 11:00 a.m. at the
Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Funeral services will be held on Monday August 6, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at
the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Dan Sitze of
Dexter, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri
with full military honors, Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in charge of all
arrangements.
