Delmer R. Barks, son of the late David Ransom and Minnie Ann Hardesty Barks, was born in Lowndes, Missouri, on August 24, 1929, and passed away at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Missouri on January 14, 2012, at the age of 82 years.
He was raised in Wayne County Missouri, and had called Dexter his home since 1962. He was baptized as a teenager and became a member of the Corinth General Baptist Church in Lowndes. Delmar began a teaching career at the Frye School, a one room school house in Wayne County. He later was a teacher, coach, and a principal for the Greenville Schools. He worked as a Missouri Conservation Agent, an auctioneer and a contractor. Delmer was instrumental in refurbishing and revitalizing several buildings in downtown Dexter.
He was first married to Darlene June Rogers on March 27, 1947, and three children were born. On October 5, 1985, he married Peggy Lacey Young in Dexter, Missouri.
Surviving his wife, Peggy Barks of Dexter, Missouri; two sons and spouses, Delmer R. & Debbie Barks of Lowndes, Missouri, Kevin L. & Tera Barks of Dexter, Missouri; one daughter and spouse, Doris & Larry McAnally of East Bernard, Texas; three stepsons and spouses; Kenneth Young, Tim Young both of Dexter, Missouri, Kelly & Kim Young of Bentonville, Arkansas; one stepdaughter, Donna Warren of Columbia, Missouri; one sister, Wilma Lewis of Farmington, Missouri and one nephew raised as his brother, Don Schatz of Lebanon, Missouri.Three other nephews, one niece and other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Schatz and four other siblings in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Bro. Jack Rogers of Lowndes, Missouri and Rev. Steve Easterwood of Dexter, Missouri officiating.
Interment will be in Corinth Cemetery in Lowndes, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
