Clara Marie Wempe Boan, age 90, passed away peacefully with her husband, James Boan, at her bedside in Chesterfield, MO on June 1, 2012.
Mrs. Boan was born October 28, 1921 in West Frankfort, Kansas to August and Anna (Lorson) Wempe. She married James O. Boan on August 28, 1950 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Clara and James met at the Nebraska Farmer Newspaper. James was a journalist in advertising and Clara was editor of the Home section of the newspaper. After their marriage Clara became a homemaker and the mother of five children. After raising their children and many moves throughout the Midwest, Clare and Jim wanted to fulfill their dream of owning and operating a small community newspaper. In 1977 they purchased the Bloomfield Vindicator. With strong work ethics, they succeeded in running a quality, independently owned, weekly newspaper for many years. They had come full circle.
In addition to spending time with her family, Clara loved making a house a home filled with rich traditions. She was an excellent cook with homemade pies being her specialty.
Clara was a life-long faithful member of the Roman Catholic Church and attended the Sacred Heart Church in Dexter. She was also a member of the Bloomfield's Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband James Oliver Boan, and five children; two sons, James Scott Boan of Bolingbrook, IL, and John Morgan Boan of Mitchellville, IA; and three daughters, Rebecca Ann Hoogheem (Tom) of Chesterfield, MO, Barbara Helene Metcoff (Jerry) of Roxbury, CT, and Elizabeth Marie Lilly (Bob) of Dexter, MO. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; Brandi, Megan, Alyssa, Katie, Kristen, Sarah, Mark, Laura, Bobby, Josh and Matt; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Helen Wadick of Harwinton, CT, and Bertha Wempe of Topeka, KS.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, John, Bill, and Pete Wempe.
Friends may visit on Thursday, June 7, 2012, after 10:00 am at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 11:00 am at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri with Rev. David Dohogne of Dexter, Missouri officiating.
Burial will follow at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
