Christine Combs, the daughter of the late Excheck and Grace Hester Childress, was born in Aromeral, Arkansas, Missouri on September 20, 1936, and passed away at the St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on January 25, 2008, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Combs had lived her entire life in Southeast Missouri and had lived for 65 years in Essex, Missouri. She had been a member of the Powerhouse Church of God in Christ for twenty years.
Surviving are one daughter, Cynthia Combs of Huntsville, Alabama; three sons & daughters-in-law, Charles & Elsie Hester of Florissant, Missouri, Robert & Beth Hester of Denver, Colorado, Michael & Deborah Hester of St. Louis, Missouri; two step-daughters and husbands, Susan & Hartlee Tillman of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sandra & Terry Hester of Huntsville, Alabama; two step-sons, Charles Combs of Joliet, Illinois, Michael Combs of Sikeston, Missouri; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; twenty step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and one brother, Lee Hester of Essex, Missouri. Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bearice Davis and Volla Bonner.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 2, 2008, after 11:00 AM at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 12:00 PM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Pastor Ronnie Webb of Poplar Bluff, Missouri officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
