Charles William Corlew, son of the late William Chester "Bill" and Versie Helen Kimbrell Corlew, was born in Essex, Missouri on August 28, 1934, and died suddenly on October 25, 2011, at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 27 days.
He had lived in Essex, Missouri his entire life and was a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church in Essex where he had served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling jokes and stories. He spent as much time outdoors as the weather allowed. He was retired from working as a heat/air engineer.
He was married to Mary Matilda Litzler on June 29, 1952, in Dexter, Missouri. Mrs. Corlew still resides in Essex, Missouri. He is also survived by six children, Sandy K. McMullin and husband Glenn McMullin, Charlotte A. Stutts and husband Mark Stutts, Michael Joe Corlew, Rodney L. Corlew and wife Vickie Corlew, Mary Jan Wheeler, and Charles Ray Corlew and wife Lisa Corlew. In addition, Charles and Mary are survived by twelve grandchildren, Dana Baldwin, Katie Sells, Glenna Couch, Josh McMullin, Amy Asberry, Jay McMullin, David McMullin, Jessica Corlew, Lindsey Corlew, Justin Wheeler, Hollie Hughes and Hannah Gregory; and by twelve great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Doyle Corlew of Dexter, Missouri; and one sister, Wanda Owens of Eldorado, Illinois. Other relatives and many friends also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Crutcher.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2011, at 10:00 am at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Brad Cox of Syracuse, Indiana, Rev. Dale McFarland of Sikeston and Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating.
Interment will be in the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
