Carl Ryan

Dr. Carl Willard Ryan Born on July 27, 1926 in Portageville, Mo., this much loved Puxico resident met Jesus on Feb. 7, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Patrick and Olia Elgin Ryan nee Bryant, and siblings (spouses): Jerry Patrick (Laura nee Burge), Gertrude Olia Downie nee Ryan (Laird), Arnold Lender (surviving spouse Nola nee Perkins), Everett Louis, Grady Armor, and surviving brother (sister in law) Thad Bryant (Phyllis nee Buchanan). He is survived by numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins, and Marcella Harris, the mother of his four children which follow with (spouses) and [grandchildren]. Andrea Dawn Johnson nee Ryan (David) [Sarah/Harrison], Stephanie Jo Fischer nee Ryan (Michael) [Jason Buck/Peter Kirk], Louis Patrick (Diana) [Amanda/Christopher/Matthew], John Francis (Beth) [Cameron Barnes/Cole Francis/Christian John]. Dr. Carl Willard Ryan, a WWII Navy veteran, earned his college degrees and continued studies toward earning his Ph.D. in History while teaching at several Missouri High Schools. He was a gifted history professor at universities in West Virginia and South Carolina. He specialized in the Civil War and delighted audiences with monologues in full period costume. He regularly enjoyed nature walks and keeping Puxico free of litter, entertaining nursing home residents with stories and his tenor voice, and hanging out at Mel's Diner. He donated over 100 pints of blood to the American Red Cross. We invite you to a memorial at First United Methodist Church, 301 E. Richardson, Puxico, MO on Feb. 28, 2009 at 9:30 AM.
