Bill Matthews

William Matthews of Bloomfield, son of the late Newt Matthews and Freda Bryant Matthews Aslin, was born in Bloomfield, Missouri, on January 12, 1928, and passed away at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on June 26, 2020, at the age of 92 years.. On December 3, 1989 he was married to Willene Gibbs, in Missouri; she precedes him in death on December 1, 2013. Bill was a retired LTJG, US Navy for 20 years and traveled all over the world for his country, after service he was an insurance inspector until retirement. Surviving are his three sons and wives, Steven Matthews, of Lebanon Tennessee; David and Marcia Matthews of Reno, Nevada and Michael Matthews of Reno, Nevada; one daughter Catherine Matthews of Las Vegas, Nevada; two step sons, Scott & Lina Gibbs and Todd & Jill all of Bloomfield; one step daughter Pam Gibbs of Lawrence, Kansas, eight grandchildren; Dustin and family, Bob and family,and Necia, Donnie and Caroline Gibbs, Alex Gibbs, Matt Gibbs, & Sam Gibbs, Rachel Demasio; several great grandchildren; one brother & wife Jack & Pauline Matthews of South Carolina, one sister in law Mary Matthews Hopkins. Other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Willene, two brothers Sgt. Joe Matthews,and Bob and Alene Matthews. Graveside Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri. Interment will be in the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
