Bessie Evelyn Bridges of Puxico, daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Clara Chasteen Hill, was born February 22, 1927, in Bloomfield, Missouri and passed away at the Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff on May 29, 2017, at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 7 days. She had lived in Southeast Missouri all of her life and in Puxico for many years. She was a member of the Corinth General Baptist Church near Puxico and enjoyed being outdoors and her flowers. On September 21, 1945, she married Vernon Edward Bridges. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1987. Surviving are one daughter & husband, Donna & Harold Bailey of St. Charles; three sons & wives, Mike Bridges of Poplar Bluff, Kent & Nancy Bridges of Puxico, Bruce & Sheila Bridges of Evansville, Indiana, seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death one brother, Bill Hill and one sister, Josephine Lee. Friends may call on Friday, June 2, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Clark of Puxico officiating. Interment will follow at the Rock Hill Cemetery near Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
