Essie Jewell Griffin, the daughter of the late Willima Edward and Bertha Wilson Prince, was born in Delaplaine, Arkansas on November 12, 1924, and passed away in Sacramento, California, November 11, 2005, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 30 days. She had lived in California for severals years before moving to Essex, Missouri in 1982. She had moved back to California for the last six months. She was a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church where she was Sunday school teacher for sixteen years. She also served as a Sunday school teacher for twelve years at the Harmony General Baptist Church in San Rafael, California. She was the President of the Missionary Society for twenty years. In 1941 she was married to Robert D.L. Griffin in Gray Ridge, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2003. Surviving are two sons: Jim Griffin of Sacramento, California and Keith Griffin of Missouri, one brother: Link Prince of Michigan, one sister: Gladys Griffin of Arkansas, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son: Lyndell Wayne Griffin on February 20, 2000. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter, Missouri officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
